Manchester Histories/Print & Protest

Manchester Histories/Print & Protest

I was commissioned to devise and run a drop-in workshop session for Manchester Craft & Design Centre’s Heritage Day celebrations.

I designed and made a set of laser-etched print blocks inspired by the architecture of the building. The blocks were then used as part of the Print & Protest workshop.

Participants were encouraged to leave their mark on the fabric and throughout the day, we collectively created a protest banner to mark the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre.

The banner was then embellished with the words TRUTH & STRENGTH, a slogan from the original banners at the Peterloo Protest.

The finished piece is now on permanent display within the centre.
